Sycuan and the Dehesa Community

The Sycuan Casino entrance has been landscaped and widened to four lanes
The Sycuan Tribal Council and the Crest/Dehesa/Granite Hills/ Harbison Canyon Community Planning Group negotiated a government-to-government Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which creates a process for Sycuan to work closely with the neighboring community to respond to community concerns that arise regarding tribal development projects and the business operations of Sycuan Resort and Casino.

During the last seven years, the MOU has established a positive process of constructive dialogue which has resulted in Sycuan directly responding to community requests for improvements to benefit our neighbors in the Dehesa Valley.

The following is a partial list of improvements undertaken and paid for by Sycuan that were requested by the community:
Retrofit of exterior Casino lighting.
Reduced density of Big Oak Housing Project (proposed 37, built 8).
Sloane Canyon public trail improvements.
Sloane Canyon cleanup. Removed vagrants and prohibited illegal off-road vehicle activity.
Widening of Dehesa Road at the main entrance to the Reservation to enhance traffic safety.
Assisted the California Highway Patrol with the purchase of speed control trailers in front of Dehesa School.
Installed electronic speed signs near Dehesa School to help better identify the “school zone”.
Constructed a left turn lane at Dehesa School to enhance the flow of traffic.
Extension of a natural gas line to serve the community.
Extension of cable TV service line to serve the community.
Funded extension of water service line.
Brush clearing for fire prevention.
Parking structure mitigation – re-vegetation of valet parking lot as natural habitat.
Contributions to Dehesa Dollars for Scholars.
Annual funding for Dehesa School’s 6th grade camp at Catalina Island.
Currently studying additional turn lanes at Dehesa Road and Sycuan Square.
Currently studying additional turn lane at Casino Way.
